According to The Bone's website, the station now calls itself "fm 93.3 -- Quality Rock. All Dave Matthews Band. All the Time." There has been speculation for months now that changes were coming to 93.3 The Bone. It looks like the Regular Guys out of Rock 100.5 in Atlanta will be syndicated on 93.3 starting monday.
After reading through various blogs, I have also read that WNNX-FM 100.5 in Atlanta has recently tweaked it's format by playing "Quality rock" (see something similar on The Bone's website?) by shifting away from the "heavy stuff." (read more about the WNNX-FM format tweak here)
Looks like on Monday, look for something new on The Bone. It will be interesting to see what will happen to this station because KDBN is clearly at a disadvantage due to it's poor signal in the metroplex. After the Dave Matthew's stunting is over, looks like The Bone will now be knows as fm 93-3 Quality Rock
I've seen this change coming for awhile now, but couldn't predict what format they would use for The Bone. A month ago, Pugs & Kelly were also fired from the Bone back in March. KDBN said at the time no changes were planned (looks like that was a fib!). It's hard for me to say what format would be good for The Bone due to the signal and for this reason, I don't think I could make a good prediction on whether this format will work or not, but who knows, maybe it's the right format for KDBN. Either way, I think Cumulus is making a smart decision by canning this station. Check out the ratings KDBN has been pulling.
I also wonder if this means KDBN killing the "Energy 93.3 - All 90's" format on their HD-2 signal and moving 93.3 The Bone there. (It is very common when stations change format to move their former format to an HD-2 signal. Examples: 96.7 The Twister moves to sister station KSCS-HD2 when Platinum took over 96.7. 107.5 The Oasis moved to HD-2 when the now defunct MOViN 107.5 (now Mega 107.5) took the airwaves.)
I wish I could write a better entry on this format switch, but I unfortunately no longer live in Dallas and have been unable to listen to the DFW market on a regular basis due to being busy with school, so if anyone out there reads this, feel free to clue me in on what else is going on.
I guess we will find out Monday what this format will be like...
Until then, take care.
